Filbert Spread
Many kinds of nuts can be ground fine and used as
spreads on rolls, bread, or muffins. Sweetness can be provided by
adding a banana or ground dates or other dried fruit. Nuts contain
healthy fats and no trans fats, and walnuts are high in n-3 fatty
acids. That means that nuts are heart-healthy. Here are some recipes
for nut spreads.
Ingredients
1 1/2 cup filberts
1 1/4 cup water
1 banana
Pinch of salt to taste
Directions
Put filberts and water in blender and blend until smooth. Add banana
and salt and blend some more. Use as a spread on bread in place of
butter or margarine.
